“Windows XP Explorer has a 'feature' to provide a preview in the Details box on the left of the file you have selected, if it’s supported. Image files, HTML pages, video clips, MP3s, etc are all previewed (even with the folder view open).If you have a large movie clip and it either is corrupt (ie. no index from a partial download) or it uses an unsupported codec, then Explorer tries to load the whole file. This can slow your computer a lot and prevent deleting/renaming/moving/etc the file until it’s finished.

Simply do the following steps:

1) Open a command window (Start->Run, type in 'cmd' hit enter)
2) To remove image preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 /u shimgvw.dll
3) To readd image preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
4) To remove media preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
5) To readd media preview, type and hit enter
regsvr32 shmedia.dll

Second Version: Even Easier - Make Two Batch Files

shmediaoff.bat that has this line in it:
REGSVR32 /U SHMEDIA.DLL

and then shmediaon.bat (to turn preview for files that works) back on:
REGSVR32 SHMEDIA.DLL

Executing this file will remove a registry key which makes explorer load shmedia.dll that will resolve file in use problem.

Simply put, this removes the annoying “permission denied” errors when trying to move/copy/delete AVI files.

To use this fix make a new text file, paste the following code in it, file extension change to inf. Rick click on the file and choose install. Done.

TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol and the TCP/IP Stack is the set of layers of communications protocol that connects computers on the internet. In Windows, this is controlled by a file called Winsock.dll. If you are having troubles relating to this type of problem, some of the symptoms you encounter may be that you can "ping" pages on the internet, but your browser always returns a "page cannot be displayed" error.

Sometimes this type of error develops as a result of running a program like LavaSoft's AdAware or SpyBot Search & Destory in order to get rid of "spyware" running behind the scenes on your computer. These programs may inadvertently destroy your internet connectivity by removing certain necessary Registry entries. You might also develop such a problem after removing network software incorrectly or uninstalling a firewall improperly, or even running a Registry cleaner a little too recklessly.

In previous versions of Windows, you can reinstall the TCP/IP protocol fairly easily, but in Windows XP the TCP/IP stack is a core component of the OS. However, you can "reset" the TCP/IP to the same state it was in as when you first installed Windows XP, as described in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

What you basically have to do is to type at a Command Prompt a command like the following:

netsh int ip reset logfile.txt

When this command is executed, it rewrites pertinent registry keys that are used by the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stack to achieve the same result as the removal and the reinstallation of the protocol. The registry keys affected are at the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\Parameters\

There is a program available called WinsockXpFix.exe that does the above, and that also does some other things that are aimed at fixing Winsock in XP. It replaces Registry keys here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

It backs up a file called Hosts in the folder WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and then replaces it with a default new one. The Hosts is a plain text file linking web or network addresses with their IP addresses; this file may contain invalid entries due to modified web page addresses, and may become corrupted as the result of spyware, trojans, the use of file transmission networks such as KaZaa, etc.

After doing all this it reboots the computer.

אוקי, אז התקנו מערכת חדשה, נקייה כמו טוסיק של תינוק. עכשיו הכי טוב להתחיל בהתחלה. עצות ראשוניות לכוונון המחשב כדי לפנות קצת זיכרון, וזיכרון זה חלק די חשוב בכל הסיפור של מהירות ותגובת המחשב ברגע נתון.


טיפ ראשון: שחררו את המערכת מכל השטויות הויזואליים של ווידווס המוגדרים כברירת מחדל בהתקנה הראשונה. לשם כך נתחיל בתפריט התחל – קליק ימיני על חלק ריק ( ליד כיבוי המחשב ..לא משנה איפה), לחץ מאפיינים – עבור לתגית תפריט התחל- לחץ על כפתור התאם, והגענו להתאם תפריט התחלה. סמן סמלים קטנים ורשום 0 ב"מספר תוכנות בהתחל". עכשיו התפריט נקי ואפשר להוסיף את הקיצורים הרצויים עפ"י החלטה אישית (שיוצגו בצד שמאל כשלוחצים על כפתור התחל), פשוט גוררים מ-"כל התוכניות איזה תוכנית שרוצים ע"י קליק ימיני על תוכנה רצויה – "שלח לתפריט התחלה".
נעבור לתגית "מתקדם" נוריד סימון מה-"הראה תוכניות מותקנות אחרונות", ובחלונית ה- "פריטים בתפריט התחל שנה/סמן ל- "הראה כתפריט". מה שקיבלנו זה תפריט התחל המציג לינקים ישירים לכל מקום במחשב.
עכשיו אנחנו רוצים להאיץ את מהירות תפריט "התחל" ולכן נעשה את הפעולות והשינויים הבאים ברג'סטרי:
Start \ Run \ regedit \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop
ומצידו הימיני ניכנס למאפייני השולחן לפקודה הנקראת: MenuShowDelay ונשנה את הערך ל30 –או 40 (לא מומלץ לשנות ל-0, ולכן 30 מאיות השנייה זה בהחלט מספיק מהר לזמן תגובה). אחרי כיבוי והפעלה של המחשב נקבל בזמן ריחוף מעל תפריט" התחל" / "כל התוכניות" מהירות תגובה של נתונים בקצב מואץ.

שחרור משאבי זיכרון חלק 2:
בשולחן העבודה- קליק ימיני על חלק ריק / תצוגה / אפקטים. להוריד את הסמון המעצבן של ארבעת הריבועים הראשונים ונשאיר בסימון רק את שתי התחתונות (הראה חלון בעת גרירה).

שחרור משאבי זיכרון חלק 3:
קליק ימיני על "המחשב שלי" / מאפיינים / מתקדם / ביצועים / כפתור הגדרות, והגענו להגדרות ביצועים משם בחלון הפנימי נבטל את כל הסימון פרט לבאים: הראה תוכן חלון בזמן גרירה ובנוסף את ארבעת האחרונים "השתמש ברקעים .., השתמש במשימות נפוצות, הצללה על סמלים בשולחן, החל עיצוב ויזואלי על כפתורים. כמובן שאפשר גם אותם לא לסמן אבל אז מאבדים כל צורה של ווינדוס אקס-פי ולא כולם אוהבים לראות חלונות ומערכת מרובעת בצבע אפור די מגעיל (סטיל של 2005), לשיקולכם. טיפ קטן בנוסף- הורדה של צלליות מסמלי שולחן תגרום לבאג ידוע ומעצבן, המראה מסגרות בצבע על המילים שליד הסמלים ולכן לא מומלץ להוריד מסימון.
